Welcome Hotties!

It's about time.

I have been waiting.

I've been waiting for a community of peers to join me in making this stage in life the best stage yet. And here we are...at last! I'm so giddy you are here with me.

So you've made it to Menopause Beach, but what the heck is it and what do you do here?

In a nutshell, Menopause Beach is a virtual beach party where perimenopausal and menopausal women can go for a little peer support and a lot of laughs.

Maybe it's best to start with the "why".

Why did I create this online community? Because menopause is a beach. For real. And if you are anything like me, you knew a little about menopause... you know, the basic stuff... you'll get hot flashes, moody, lose your sex drive, and grow hairs on your chin. But there is SO MUCH more that no one ever told us. Not our doctors, not our therapists, not even our mothers. So it seems like overnight, we started getting smacked in the face (and head, and stomach, and boobs, and vajayjay) with new, weird, horrible, and scary symptoms that we were clueless about.

We were told, "you're just aging", "it's natural", "this is just life", or my favorite, "it's just in your head". I once almost fainted and started seeing things so I rushed to urgent care thinking I was having a stroke. But the doctor just brushed it off by saying, "you're just having an episode". What the #$%@! is an "episode"? What is this 1920?

And then they gave us no help. So we endured. We endured physical and mental trauma that rivals pregnancy, childbirth, running a marathon, the worst ever hangover, falling from a 3 story building, getting lost in the forest, and taking hallucinogenic drugs...all at one time. And we didn't get sick days. Ladies, I know I'm not the only one who has briefly considered the pros and cons of jail time just so we could get a break. Just kidding. Don't commit crimes for vacay time.

Instead, we searched online. There are tons of resources out there. But none that I want to accept. By that, I mean, there are lots of medical resources. But they are filled with medical jargon that is dry and depressing. While populating the virtual library on the Menopause Beach website, I was looking for articles about "perimenopausal rage", because wouldn't it be great to get some accurate information about it, and more importantly, what we can do about it? What I found was the vast majority of articles simply offered one primary solution... diet and exercise. Ok. Ladies. I know you are like me... we've dieted and exercised OUR ENTIRE LIVES. Telling me I have to just diet and exercise to make it all better is only adding to my rage.

There are also plenty of peer support groups and content creators out there, too. But I'm a one-stop-shop type o' gal. I wanted one place where I could go to learn about perimenopause and menopause and what to expect as my mind and body start to revolt. And I want a community of peers to share experiences, ideas, and tips. And I want it to be real. I don't want to feel like I have to "love this stage of life" or become some image of a silver-haired mental and physical powerhouse of a woman. I am a pile of mush. I want to be okay with that.

And above all else... I want to laugh.

We can't stop the menopause train, but we can invite a group of hotties who just want to have a good time to join us on the ride.

(btw...I've adopted the "hotties" label because not only are we only a few minutes away from our next hot flash, but we are also beautiful, cute, dazzling, gorgeous, and perfectly imperfect... hotties).

So all aboard...grab your pina coladas... next stop... Menopause Beach!
